Omg I have been lax these past few weeks! Been super busy, so I'll give you some highlights:
- Did an art class and made a scratch off map (can't find it in myself to scratch off the paint though :D It might ruin it, its super flaky...
- My lecturer mentioned me via question I asked after class, I may have Hermione-squealed :p
- Found out I did my blog wrong (didn't fit critera) and had to do it again, but I don't mind, better to find out now than after the due date :)
- Enjoyed walks on the pier to watch the sunrise has been great
- Watched finding nemo in the cinema for £2.50!! so cheap
- Went to my first bangor vegan reseraunt and it was so so tasty, everything was vegan, even the condiments :D Had an italian style burger with sundried tomatos and olives, yum!
- Learnt to jive (as a male lead xD they needed more males)
- Lecturer made a joke about essay "if your essay is a sandwhich, think about the ingredients, and remember, I have to eat that sandwhich"
Mums been super encoraging as always :D She's the best human ever!
I think that's everything? Oh, since me and Robyn have made a pact to give up something together....I have no idea how this happened xD
Robyns given up meat and I've given up alcohol! So,
!!CONGRATULATIONS ROBYN!! 26/09/2016
So anyway, ciao for now x
So
had my first classes this week and I've got to say, I love them :D I
was really worried because I've not had any formal education in my field
but luckily all my own personal research and backpacking to the
historical sites related to the things I'm studying has put me on a
similar level to the newly educated students, thank god xD
First
day though the room for Apocalypse Then: 14th century was so much more
popular than the teacher anticipated a lot of students (me included) had
to sit on the floor. Memories...
I
also visited and fell in love with the library, it looks like Hogwarts!
I'll add pictures after the holiday though (forgot my camera) and got a
personal tour (it took me an hour to find a book, the system is new)
not knowing we were getting a tour next week by teachers! I was a little
preemptive here
Tuesday
I did modern history and now have a favourite teacher, he answers every
question I think of and is already talking about dates and events for
the exam! I feel so much more prepared now
Wednesday
and Thursday was my epiphany days (when I realised I was in control of
my own learning) I've been doing so much research since. I even finished
my bibliography to get out of the way, I felt weirdly good. Education
is super satisfying XD it's like when you get achievements in Dragon
Age!
Friday
was my lazy day, and rewarded myself by watching Snow White and the
Huntsman (great film) and made friends with a girl that just arrived at
my dorm - I didn't realise that a friend was what I needed to finally
feel settled but my Uni experience has completly improved now that I
have a gym/pier buddy xD I'll tell you about that in week 3's post
though :)
Weekend
was amazing, I skyped Mum and then Chris and Mum together! It made me
so happy :) I didn't realise how homesick I was before (moving out is so
different than moving away) so skype has been a godsend
Wow,
so this is the last (I hope) of any negative aspects of university
life. But preparing for homesickness is impossible, its a sneaky fog
that creeps on you. I reccomend pictures (I didn't bring any but I'm
soon going to fix that) and some home comforts: like blankets and
childhood toys
So thats all my advise, so ciao for now x
Day 5
Magical mystery tour on friday and got to see a tomb from early civilisation (they dried out the bodies on a hill and put the bones in the tomb and brought them out at holidays)
Then we went to Plas Newydd (a manor house) which next to an amazing river and was furnished as it was in the 1930's. There was a massive study ,beautiful marble bathrooms, 9 foot bookcases and even a grand piano. The best bit was however, was that the family still lived there but only the staff knew what they looked like so we could have walked among this Lord and Lady xD that was pretty cool
We also went to Penrhyn Castle (built by the English who settled in Wales) and had chips on the pier (the same river) and headed back. That was when I won my first game of pool. This was beautifully ironic as the person I was playing bragged for ages about how awesome I was and by divine intervention his ego was struck down by blind luck xD
Alternative night was to be had, many shots, amazing conversation and regretfull headbanging for that weekend at all hunched maneuvering :p I couldnt even put on my socks!
Weekend
Had a quiet weekend-ish. Tried my hand at musical theatre, escaped musical theatre xD got lost in Bangor, found Asda, skyped mum (yay!) and caught the dreaded FRESHERS FLU. I was so close xD
Ahhh all caught up now :D From here on out I'll be posting weekly updates so I can concentrate on my classes (already thinking about an essay due in December :D
So ciao for now x
Sorry about the long periods between posts xD I get distracted and realise time happened!
Day 3
So one of the great things about Bangor University? Mature student's society :D Now I feel little less adrift, some great advice (and cake) was had and now I'm less apprehensive about my journey :)
I also checked out loads of clubs in Serendipity and had a creative writing meeting the next day. Oh I forgot to mention, on day 2 I had my first encounter with one of the people in my dorm and she's from Hong Kong and the first thing she did when meeting me was give me a present! it's this little booklet of hand crafted animal stencils, that was pretty cool!
Day 4
Had a bit of a research day, joined a few more societies, found out my new timetable, found the library and had my creative writing class :) First we played fictionary which is where you get an archaic word and guess the meaning (galliardise) wrote a short piece about an emotion we picked from a hat and lastly we had to choose a profession and then a situation from a hat, I wrote a poem about a banker stuck in traffic which I will share with you :)
His fingers tapping,
Hans hover on the horn,
Clock is a-ticking,
Traffic, please adjourn
Praying to the traffic gods,
Shifting over leather,
Who caused this? Damn sods,
Patience hanging by a tether
Being a banker was a plushy position,
But the job today was in remission,
Though there was no room for a skiver,
For today his duty, was get away driver
Anyway ciao for now x
I can safely say that the shopping trip to morrisons was a success (discounting the fact I forgot toilet paper which was my main prerogative xD)
I got lost about 4/5 times but each time I met someone new xD which led me to the most amazing crepes ever and to some awesome quiz buddies. Crepes are like when tortillas and crumpets have babies :D
Quiz night was pretty good, we actually won, a team that I was on won, I've never won before. The team name was pretty inspired: 9 brits, 1 texan :p So I found out that New York used to be called New Amsterdam, that's pretty cool
I also went to the Academi which is a student club off campus, that nights event, I love cheese had a bit of a dance off, met a Harry Potter fan, discussed Northern Ireland politics and was home for 1am! well done me :D
Had a lazy day today though; Chose my modules and finally bought toilet rolls :P Got all set up with my accounts and internet so I'm all set for the start of the academic year :] touch wood
Anyway, Ciao for now x
Hello fellow humans!
So I finally took the leap, after 5 hours of driving, 2 hours of unpacking and 10 hours of recovery I made it :)
Going out the night before may have not been recommended but no regrets, have an amazing night saying goodbye to all my chums :) Got to honey ale too in Urban tap house, I suggest a sip.
So day 1 hasn't really begun yet but have lots of plans and meetings to attend, hope I don't get too lost. Will let you know how it goes!
Ciao for now x
